Alpha Channel Defined
The alpha channel is used to specify an alpha value for each video sample. The alpha value is used to control the blending, on a sample-by-sample basis, of two images.
new pixel = (alpha)(sample A color) + (1 - alpha)(sample B color)
Alpha typically has a normalized value of 0 to 1. In a graphics environment, the alpha values can be stored in additional memory. When you hear about 32-bit frame buffers, what this really means is that there are 24 bits of color, 8 each for red, green, and blue, along with an 8-bit alpha channel. Also see alpha mix.

- Parkinson's: Neurons Destroyed By Three Simultaneous Strikes: three molecules ? dopamine, a calcium channel, and a alpha-synuclei n ? act together to kill the neurons. neurons die because calcium channels lead to an increase of dopamine inside the cell; excess dopamine then reacts with alpha-synuclei n to form inactive complexes; the complexes gum up the cell's ability to dispose of toxic waste that builds up. The waste eventually kills the cell. neurons will survive if just one of the three factors is missing. It may be possible to save neurons and stop Parkinson' ;s disease by interfering with just one of the three factors. Most of dopamine inside the neurons is packaged into compartments that are shipped to the edge of the cell where the dopamine is released. The motor symptoms arise when the amount of dopamine released by the cells declines. L-DOPA improves symptoms by boosting the amount of dopamine released by the cells. Outside the compartments in the cell's cytoplasm, dopamine - in concert with calcium and alpha-synuclei n ? is toxic.
